“Research is creating new
knowledge” - Neil Armstrong
India has taken another huge step
towards becoming a developed country as it launched its second lunar
exploration mission, the ‘Chandrayaan-2’ . It’s original launch was planned for
15 July 2019 at 2:51 AM but was postponed due to technical difficulties an hour
before the launch. But the extremely hardworking scientists of India did not
give up and successfully launched the mission a week later on 22 July 2019 at
2:43 PM from Satish Dhawan Space Centre,Sriharikota with great enthusiasm.
The mission was led by a woman,
Muthayya Vanitha and the Mission Director was Ritu
Karidhal, a woman as well. This shows sincere efforts made towards women
empowerment as well as adds on to the list of developments made possible in
India due to women. Its main objective is to demonstrate the ability to
soft-land on the lunar surface and operate a robotic rover on the surface of
the moon. A few of its main scientific goals include studies of lunar
topography, mineralogy, elemental abundance, the lunar exosphere, and
signatures of hydroxyl and water ice.It helps to unleash innovation and push
the boundaries of scientific knowledge for the young generation of India in the
form of research and development.
It is expected to reach the orbit of the moon by 20
August 2019. A soft landing is expected by 7 September 2019.In this way India
is aiming to become the first country ever to accomplish a soft, controlled
landing on the moon’s surface. The ‘Chandrayaan-2’ will not only bring India
closer to becoming a developed country but will also improve the lives of the
future generation and make them feel proud.
